Kent racing driver Alex Nevill was able to conclude the 2024 ROWE Britcar Trophy championship in fine fashion last weekend, continuing an impressive streak of podium finishes to secure runner up in class and a third-place position in the overall standings.

The season concluded at the Snetterton circuit in Norfolk, where Alex and the rest of the Britcar paddock were once again a support race to the British Truck Racing Championship. In front of a large crowd trackside, Alex and his teammate, Matt Hyde, qualified the number 12 Dragon Sport Renault Clio Cup car third in class for race one.

Matt took the start of the first race and ran as high as second before an unfortunate spin put the duo down to fourth place but some way back from the leading pack. Alex took over around the halfway mark, and was able to benefit from reliability issues another competitor was suffering to climb back up to third place at the chequered flag. This result was enough to confirm their position as runners up in the Clio Cup category, but it had also seen them climb to third in the overall standings.

In race two it was Alex’s turn to start the race, and he immediately capitalised on a chaotic start to move up to second place in class. From here he held position behind Dragon Sport teammate, Harry Hickton, in the sister car 96 as the pair of them. Alex handed the car over to Matt during the pitstop window in second position, which was where the car remained for the rest of the race albeit, in a tense battle with the 96 car that was eventually settled in favour of Harry Hickton and Jack James with a winning margin of less than three tenths of a second after 50 minutes of racing.

The podium finish in race two was the fifth in a row for the 12 car and their tenth in total this season including two wins. More importantly it was also just enough to secure third place in the overall standings. An achievement that capped a strong season for Alex and the Dragon Sport team.

“Third overall is a fantastic achievement for everybody involved in our efforts this year and I think it’s a fair reward for the pace we’ve shown and the work we’ve put into this”. Alex summarised.

“I’m so grateful to everyone at Dragon Sport and Amigo Motorsport for their help this year, and to my sponsor Jackaman Insurance Services, without whom none of this would’ve been possible. I don’t know what my racing plans are for 2025 just yet, but in the meantime I’m proud of the achievements we’ve had this year”.

While the racing season is over for Alex, he’ll still be found at circuits regularly throughout the autumn and winter in his role as a driver coach and instructor with his company, Chicane Events. If you’d like to learn how to drive on track, please see chicaneevents.com for more information.
