Following the revision of Covid-19 restrictions in England, Kent’s Alex Nevill finally has the chance to finish his 2020 season when the Mini Challenge Cooper Trophy holds its’ final round this Saturday at Donington Park.
The Kent based racing driver is one of 11 drivers who enter the final round with a mathematical chance of winning the championship.
The Motorsport UK Academy squad member currently sits sixth in the points standings, 51 points away from the lead. With 118 points available on the day there’s a slim chance for Alex and the Graves Motorsport team, but it has been hampered by the reduction from three to two races at the event.
Anything can still happen though, with the weather likely to be a big factor in a rare winter event.
Donington Park has been a successful venue for Alex in the past. In 2018 he took a double win in the Cooper Am class in his very first race weekend in a car and in 2019 it was the scene of his only podium of the year despite a roll on the test day.
His positive past at the circuit means Alex is excited to return to the former F1 circuit for one last attempt at an elusive maiden win in the class.
“Donington is my favourite circuit and I’m so glad we’re still getting the chance to race there this year” Alex enthused.
“The weather will be an even bigger factor than usual this weekend, with the temperatures being a lot cooler than we’re used in our normal summer based seasons.
“It will be a big and unprecedented challenge to finish the season but I can’t wait to get stuck in. The championship is out of my control so my only focus will be on delivering the best performance I can.”
The final round will consist of two 20 minute sprint races. Live timing and commentary will be available on tsl-timing.com.
