Nevill looking to regain momentum
Nevill looking to regain momentum

Following a tough start to the season two weeks ago at Donington Park, Kent racing driver Alex Nevill is looking to regain momentum at Snetterton this weekend for round two of the Britcar Trophy Championship.

Alex and his team mate Travis Coyne began their campaign in their Dragon Sport prepared Renault Clio Cup car with a day of unfortunate setbacks.

Having qualified a disappointing fifth Alex made a fantastic start to race one, using the multi-class nature of the Britcar Trophy to his advantage as he went from fifth to first in class at the first corner.

The euphoria of the first lap was to be short lived though, as on the second lap Alex had to take avoiding action as a car from another class rejoined the circuit in front of him and unfortunately spun into the gravel in avoidance resulting in a lowly finish of seventh in class.

In race two Alex and Travis were in contention for the podium until they were assigned a penalty for failing to meet the minimum pit stop time on their mandatory stop. The duo were only one second short of the minimum time, but the penalty set them back to fifth place.

The disappointing start to the season means Alex heads to Snetterton sixth in the class standings with some work to do. Offering some solace is the fact that the Norfolk venue has previously been a happy hunting ground for Alex in the past, having claimed wins and podiums there in previous years in the MINI CHALLENGE.

The former airfield was also the scene for Alex’s first podium with the Dragon Sport team last season in the Snetterton Saloons series.

“Snetterton is a venue I know quite well, not just from my previous racing efforts but I also work there quite a lot as an instructor. Which makes it a great venue for Trav and I to re-start our 2024 campaign!” Alex summarised.

“After a tricky day at Donington our championship challenge is unfortunately on the back foot, but there’s a long way to go and our focus this weekend needs to be on having two clean races with minimal mistakes.”

Rounds 3 & 4 of the Britcar Trophy will take place this Sunday at 11:55 & 15:55 respectively. Both races will be live-streamed at www.youtube.com/@britishautomobileracingclub
