Nevill hoping to end season on a high
Nevill hoping to end season on a high

Nearly six months after it’s start over the Easter weekend, the 2024 ROWE Britcar Trophy championship concludes at Snetterton this weekend where Kent racing driver Alex Nevill will be looking to finish “a positive season” on a high note.

Alex and his teammate, Matthew Hyde, arrive at the Norfolk venue following a weekend of mixed emotions at Donington Park last month, where despite taking two podium finishes the class championship was won by High Row Motorsport.

While a third and a second in the Clio Cup class wasn’t enough to keep their championship hopes alive, it was still a healthy points haul to help them strengthen their hold on second place in the championship.

The number 12 Dragon Sport Renault Clio Cup car comes into the final round 39.5 points ahead of the two cars placed in joint third with a total of 64 points up for grabs. The duo also sit fourth in the overall points standings with a deficit of 14.5 points to third, meaning a strong overall finish is still on the cards too.

Snetterton is a venue that Alex is highly familiar with, having competed there with the Dragon Sport team three times since August last year where he claimed his first podium with the Welsh outfit.

The squads previous visit in April for round two of the Britcar Trophy saw Alex, and then team mate Travis Coyne, claim a brace of third place finishes making it a great location for Alex to finish a strong season.

“2024 hasn’t been the easiest season for me at times, but it’s been hugely positive and one that I’m proud of overall” Alex explained.

“Obviously it would’ve been great to have taken the title fight into the last round, but at the same time if you’d told me after round one (where Alex finished eighth and sixth in the races after incidents and penalties respectively) that we’d be going into the final round a strong second in the standings I definitely would’ve taken that!

“We’ve worked hard throughout the year to overcome the challenges that have been thrown at us and I’m proud of our efforts this year.

“Snetterton almost feels like a second home race for me, I’ve got family local to the circuit and I spend quite a lot of time there instructing too. It’s a great place to finish the season and I’m hopeful that we can end it on a high”.

The final round of the Britcar Trophy features the usual format of 2x 50 minute endurance races that are scheduled to start at 11:40am & 15:25pm respectively. Both races will be live streamed on the British Automobile Racing Club’s You Tube channel.
