Gills keeper Stuart Nelson has admitted that it’s been a strange week for all at Priestfield following the departure of manager Martin Allen and the installation of interim boss Peter Taylor.
Speaking at the Kent FA Volunteer Workforce Awards held at the Gallagher Stadium in Maidstone to honour the grass root heroes of the game in the county where he was presenting the winners with their awards, Nelson admitted it’s been a week of “all change” at Priestfield:
“I suppose that it’s all part of football isn’t it? One manager goes and another comes in and we as players just have to get on with it.”
“Now as professional footballers is our jobs to put in a performance on Saturday, and that’s all I’m focusing on now – Saturday and Preston North End.”
“The events of last weekend doesn’t make the Preston game any bigger than any other game. Every time I pull on a Gillingham shirt it’s a big game for me.”
“I’m paid to play for Gillingham and I look forward to every single game that we play – every Saturday or Tuesday or whenever the game is – I just can’t wait to get out there on the pitch.”
“Bottom line is that I love to be at this club and it doesn’t matter who’s in charge for me, just as long as I’m pulling on the Gills shirt every week, that’s all that matters!”
