Multiple signings for Sheppey

Sheppey United head coach Marcel Nimani has updated supporters on the club’s progress this summer, confirming a number of promising new signings in the process.

Former Football League forward Jack Midson is perhaps the most high-profile signing for United, and Nimani will hope he can more than replace the departed Dan Bradshaw, who has joined Chatham Town.

United have also completed the signings of forwards Warren Mfula and Junior Aikhionbare and central defenders Matt Bourne and Corey Holder.

Meanwhile, they have boosted their goalkeeping department with the arrivals of Adam Molloy and youngster Thomas Taylor.

Fan favourite Jahal Howlett-Mundle has also signed a new deal at Holm Park.

Midsen, who is now 36, previously played league football with Southend United, Oxford United and AFC Wimbledon, the latter for whom he scored 38 goals in 128 appearances. He was player-assistant at National League South side Hemel Hempstead last year, but now moves to Sheppey, a club he knows well after previously taking his academy to the club.

Mfula has previously played for Dartford and Hastings amongst others, with Bourne a Swale journeyman, having been a prominent figure for Sittingbourne and Faversham Town previously.

Meanwhile, Aikhionbare joins from Herne Bay, Holder is formally of Chatham, and Molloy formally of Sittingbourne.

Nimani also confirmed the Ites have played three pre-season games so far; a game against their under 23s, and matches against Ashford United and Margate.

Midsen kicked off his time at the club with a bang, scoring a hattrick in the in-house game as the senior team were victorious.

They lost 2-1 to Ashford in their first competitive friendly, Mfula scoring the goal, and then beat Margate 4-1 in an impressive showing. Goals from Billy Bennett, Harrison Carnegie and a double from Mfula secured the win.

Nimani’s side will also play Sittingbourne, Ramsgate and Hythe Town in friendlies before their Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division season gets underway.
