The Addicks’ second string will continue their defence of the Kent Senior Cup against Cray Wanderers on Wednesday 4 November. The game will be staged at Bromley’s Hayes Lane ground.
Charlton are searching for a British coach to replace Damian Matthew, who was also dismissed on Saturday. The new man will be a permanent appointment, regardless of who gets the head coach’s job.
Karel Fraeye and Wim De Corte would be the preferred choice of owner, Roland Duchatelet, but the duo will have to turn the Addicks’ fortunes round to get the job on a permanent basis.
Burton manager, Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink, has been linked with the job, but the club are unlikely to make a move for their former striker in the immediate future.
Fraeye’s first task will be to prepare the team for Saturday’s trip to promotion chasing Middlesbrough. Fraeye could scarcely have a tougher baptism.
The new boss will lean heavily on Under-21 coach, Jason Euell, and skipper, Johnnie Jackson, as he selects his team to face Boro.
