The curtain comes down on the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season this coming weekend at Brands Hatch.
Wrotham’s Motorbase Performance will be back on track at their home circuit and eager to continue their good form since returning to the series.
Motorbase celebrated its second outright win of the season during a record-breaking weekend at Silverstone just two weeks ago that also saw the Wrotham-based outfit secure all three poles for the first time since its maiden BTCC appearance in 2006.
Mat Jackson claimed his first ever back-to-back pole in the mountune-powered Ford Focus ST before going on to set a new lap record on the National Circuit layout, whilst James Cole also enjoyed his best career result to date coming away with two top finishes from the weekend.
Despite missing the first half of the season, the squad’s results since its duo of Ford’s returned to the BTCC grid has been nothing short of remarkable. With two outright race wins, five independent race wins and four podiums from the last three rounds alone, Motorbase has scored points in every round contested and the team is as determined as ever to keep that record in tact as the last flag drops.
Speaking ahead of the finale, Team Manager Oly Collins, said: “Going into the last race of the year already feels far too early; we’ve had a great second half of 2015; one which makes us all wish we had been in it from the start. We’re all extremely proud of what we’ve managed to achieve in such a short period of time and we’re ready more than ever to launch a full championship challenging campaign for 2016.”
“We’ve thrown down a very clear marker since our return and shown that we have the package in place to really go all out for the championship next season;” continued Collins. “You can tell we’ve done a good job as there are a few people moaning about how fast we are. I guess it’s a form of flattery really, if people weren’t talking about us, then you could say we’re not doing our job well enough!
“We’ll just concentrate on doing the best job that we can and keep our focus on winning races.”
Collins added; “I have to say a huge thank you to everyone that has been involved behind the scenes at Motorbase Performance for such a great end to the year, it’s just a shame that we weren’t there in the beginning. I feel sure that it would be a very different championship had we been on the start line back in April.”
It isn’t just the team that are looking forward to getting back out and racing at the weekend, the drivers are itching to get back behind the wheel of their Ford Focus as well.
Giving his thoughts, Mat Jackson said: “It feels like we’ve only just got going really and here we are already at the end. We’ve had such mega results since we returned to the grid that you can’t help but wonder ‘what if’ but all of the hard work that’s gone into this season just pushes us further forward for next year’s campaign.
“Brands should be another good circuit for the Focus. With the chassis improvements that have been made to the car this season I’d expect us to be right up there in qualifying again and we want to go out with a bang. We’re not there to interfere with anyone’s title but at the same time we’re not going to roll over. We’ll still be pushing for more wins. It should be a great final weekend.”
