The British GT Cars are back on track this Bank holiday as they head to Rockingham for the first two hour race of the season.Oman Air Motorbase ready for Rockingham

Kent’s Oman Air Motorbase team will be there and hoping that they can drive their car to victory at the Northamptonshire track.

Some of the top GT teams in Europe are going to line-up on track for the race on Monday, with an entry list of over 30 cars all vying for a spot on the podium.

Oman Air’s Porsche 911 GT3R will be driven by Ahmad Al Harthy and Michael Caine, and they will be looking to score a podium position on the car the team have worked on in the run up to the event.

However, they are at a disadvantage compared to some teams, as they will be carrying 75kg of success ballast due to the strength of the driver line-up that the Motorbase team has driving their car.Al Harthy and Caine aiming for GT podium

Despite the ballast Team boss David Bartrum is still confident and that they will be working as hard a as possible to achieve a podium finish.

Speaking ahead of the race at Rockingham, he said: “Ahmad has learnt a bit more about the car and Michael is looking forward to getting back in the car.

“We can hopefully build on what we learnt at Oulton Park but we’ve still got this 75kg penalty and we are struggling with it.”

However Al Harthy can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the Porsche 911 GT3R and test himself against some of the best in Europe.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to being back in the car and back with the guys at Oman Air Motorbase, we’ve got high hopes for Rockingham.

“The two races at Oulton Park went very well for us, scoring points in both was a fantastic start to my GT career and the team did a great job with our race set-up. We’re feeling quite confident going into the first two-hour race of the British GT season: we had a positive test at Rockingham so the aim is to fight for our first podium of 2013.”

There will be two one hour duration free practice sessions on Sunday, with qualifying then later in the afternoon. On Monday the two hour race gets underway at 13:05.
