Kent based Motorbase Performance recently unveiled their plans to defend their British GT Championship title.

They are going to do it with a Porsche 911 GT3R driven by Michael Caine who will be joined by Ahmad Al Harthy for the 2013 season. The team will be competing under the name of ‘Oman Air Motorbase’ for the 2013 season.

Caine will be a familiar name to GT fans as he was part of the title winning team who clinched victory in the final round of last season. Al Harthy however might be a new name on people’s lips for the 2013 season but he does have a strong racing  pedigree.

He is making the step up from the Pro-Am 1 Championship which he one as part of the Carrera Cup GB last season.

Speaking at the recent team launch, he said: “”We’re absolutely delighted to be able to announce such exciting plans for 2013, especially off the back of such a successful season last year in Porsche Carrera Cup GB. What we all achieved in 2012 paved the way for us to climb the ladder into British GT this year; it’s an incredibly prestigious and highly respected championship with such an amazing heritage.

“Moving full-time into endurance racing and away from sprint racing is a big new challenge, but it’s one I’m really looking forward to with everyone at Oman Air Motorbase. I seriously couldn’t have a better or more experienced team-mate than Michael (Caine) to share a car with – if I can get close to matching his lap times I’ll be very happy indeed.”

Team principal David Bartram is looking forward to defending the title that they won in thrilling fashion last season.

He said: “”I’m delighted that Motorbase is able to defend the British GT Title this year, and we have the perfect partnership to achieve this in Michael (Caine) and Ahmad (Al Harthy). Being able to bring two reigning Champions together in one car gives us that extra dimension needed to win the Championship and I’m looking forward to another successful season; our first as Oman Air Motorbase.”

The championship gets underway on April 1st at Oulton Park, there are seven events scheduled for the 2013 season. The championship arrives at Brands Hatch on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th August.
