Once again Motorbase has shown its commitment to backing young talented Kent based drivers by welcoming Jack Mitchell for 2014.Jack Mitchell

Mitchell will be run under the Airwaves Racing banner during the season as he takes part in the Ginetta Junior series.

Following on from previous seasons’ support of local Kent teenagers Jake Hill, Tom Grainger and Bethany Abbott; Team Principal David Bartrum has confirmed that the squad will be supporting 16 year old Wrotham-based Jack during his Ginetta Junior Championship campaign.

As a former Ford Saloon racer himself, David Bartrum has long been an advocate of supporting young talent looking to breakthrough into British Motorsport, and nowhere has this been more evident than in the team’s recent support of young drivers.

Speaking about giving Jack this opportunity, Bartrum said: “It’s no secret that I think all teams have a duty to assist young drivers looking to take the first steps in a motorsport career and the young driver programme is something that I’m very passionate about.”

“I know first-hand how tough it can be for young drivers to get the funding and support needed to succeed, but we need to support the next generation as they come through and it’s great to be in a position to help them in whatever way we can.”

“2014 is an important year for Motorbase with our biggest ever programmes in the BTCC, British GT, Blancpain Endurance Series and now with Jack and JHR we have a great presence in the Ginetta Juniors as well.”

Jack’s impressive track record speaks for itself. From the start of his racing career in karts at the age of eight, he has collected many accolades along the way finishing second in the British Karting Championships and Formula Kart Stars before moving into cars at the age of 14 where he ended his rookie Fiesta Junior season as Vice Champion in 2012.

Joining the TOCA support package in the Ginetta Junior Championship in 2013, Jack enjoyed an outstanding debut season amassing 10 rookie trophies and three third place finishes, becoming the first rookie ever to take an outright win in a debut season in the history of the championship.

Jack followed this up with another remarkable performance during the 2014 season opener at Brands Hatch last month – taking both pole positions and race wins during the weekend’s two races and collecting two fastest laps along the way.

David added: “Jack’s a great lad and very quick on four wheels as he’s already shown. Hopefully with our support and backing he can push forward even further this season and really make a name for himself on the TOCA package. We’re delighted to be able to welcome Jack on board for this exciting new era in our history and everyone at Motorbase is behind him 100%.”Jack Mitchell2

Jack was delighted to be able to join Motorbase for the 2014 season and hopes that it will be a good fit for him and the team.

He said: “Having a team like Motorbase behind me at this stage of my motorsport career really means a lot. I know the boys from my time in the workshop where I did my work experience and everyone in the team has been really supportive.”

With the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship and support package heading to Donington Park this coming weekend; Jack is looking to add to his already impressive track record at the Derbyshire track where he still holds the Fiesta Junior lap record, and hoping to steer the Airwaves Racing Ginetta G40 to further race wins and podiums.

He added: “The car looks amazing and it’s fantastic to be racing under the Airwaves Racing banner, it can only help to raise my profile and I’m really grateful to David and everyone at Motorbase for this opportunity.”

“Hopefully this season will continue along the same lines as Brands Hatch and this will be the beginning of a longer involvement with the team.”
