Michael Morrison has played his last game for Charlton. The central defender, currently on loan with Birmingham, will move to St Andrews on a permanent basis in January.
Andre Bikey and Tal Ben Haim have been ever presents in Bob Peeters’ defence, other than when Ben Haim missed a game because of Yom Kippur.
Morrison came in for that game, ironically against Birmingham at The Valley.
The 26-year-old had been a regular in his first three years at the club and formed an effective barrier with Matt Taylor in the League One title winning side.
Morrison was one of the huge intake of new players in the summer of 2011 and discussions about a new deal went on throughout the summer.
The Bury St Edmunds born defender was obviously unhappy about losing his place this season and rumours that the Addicks would be willing to let him go surfaced as long ago as September.
Oguchi Onyewu was brought in to add cover when Morrison first went on loan to Birmingham but it is thought the American international may return home to play in the MLS when his current deal expires in January.
Joe Gomez is a centre-back by trade, though Peeters has used him at right-back. Morrison will move for an undisclosed fee and it is likely the club will bring in a replacement for the popular vice-captain in the January window.
In total, Morrison played 150 games for Charlton – 146 starts plus 4 substitute appearances – in all competitions, scoring 8 goals.
The Addicks squad is short of numbers and fans will be anxious to hear news of new arrivals.
