Gillingham have announced that goalkeeper Glenn Morris has agreed a new one year deal with the club.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper was brought to the club last summer by Peter Taylor and didn’t have to wait long to make his debut, coming on at half time in the opening league fixture of the season at MK Dons after Stuart Nelson suffered a thumb injury.

Morris then started the Capital One Cup tie at Yeovil Town three days later, but found himself down the pecking order with Stephen Bywater brought in on loan.

The former Aldershot, Southend United and Leyton Orient keeper then had to wait until March to get a regular start under new manager Justin Edinburgh, keeping Nelson out of the side and featured in twelve appearances for The Gills throughout the season.

Having signed for another year on Monday afternoon, Morris was glad to put pen to paper.

He said: “I’m pleased to be here, I was happy last season and it’s a local club for me. I didn’t see any reason to change that.

“It was a no brainer really, it didn’t take long to get sorted and I’m glad it’s now done.”

Justin Edinburgh added: “Glenn has been a model professional from the first day I walked through the door. He was patient in waiting for his opportunity, and once he did, he was very impressive.

“The fact he has committed to us for another year is great news for everybody at the club and I look forward to working with him ahead of the 2015-16 season.”

Morris’ signing makes it a hat-trick for Gills on Monday with Ben Williamson agreeing a two year deal from Port Vale, whilst left back Bradley Garmston has signed from West Bromwich Albion on a three year deal.
