Morgan makes his way to Mos
Morgan makes his way to Mos

19 year old defenceman Ryan Morgan has become the latest new signing to join the Invicta Dynamos after the former Chelmsford blue liner agreed terms to switch from Essex to Kent for 2017/18.

Despite being born in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, defenceman Ryan Morgan has spent the majority of his junior years in Essex where he featured at various age groups before icing for the Chelmsford Warriors, in the NIHL South Division 2, and Chieftains, in the NIHL South’s top tier, last season.

Prior to 2016/17 the blue liner had previously won national championships at under 16s level and also been a key figure for the area as he appeared for the under 17s south eastern conference team in regional competitions. In addition, despite his youth, the defenceman has demonstrated his leadership qualities by captaining the south eastern side, his under 16s team and wearing the ‘A’ of alternate captain for the Chelmsford under 18s.

In 2015/16 Ryan Morgan opted to switch Essex for Ontario, Canada as he spent a term with the Coldwater Falcons in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). Here he appeared 34 times in the maroon, grey and white of the Falcons and managed 4 goals and 10 assists for 14 points whilst icing back on the blue line.

He would return to the UK for 2016/17, this time featuring 13 times for the NIHL South Division 2 East runners-up the Chelmsford Warriors and 12 times for the NIHL South Division 1 winning Chelmsford Chieftains. However, it is the SilverBlades Gillingham that the skater will now consider his hockey home as he brings his game to Kent looking to further establish himself in British ice hockey’s second tier.

Speaking on the arrival of Ryan Morgan, Head Coach Kevin Parrish said, “Ryan is a promising young defenceman with plenty of potential having risen through the Chelmsford youth setup and spent a year across the pond in Canada.”

“He joins the Mos looking to firmly establish himself in the NIHL South Division 1 and with the raw qualities to prove he belongs at this level of the game.”

“At 19 Ryan is young, keen to continue learning and eager to make his mark at the SilverBlades Gillingham in front of our fantastic supporters. I look forward to working with him when the new season gets underway in September 2017”.

Ryan Morgan will wear number 16 for the Dynamos and is the fourth player to join the club’s rear guard following the previous announcements of Ondrej Zosiak, Tommy Ralph and Harrison Lillis.
