Jimmy-Jay Morgan is a young man with a future. The Chelsea youngster, who is on loan at Gillingham, is determined that his loan spell in Kent is going to be a learning curve that he can learn much from.

“It’s been really good this week after the win last weekend,” Morgan told us.
“The lads have really been positive as they have been since I’ve been here. It was a massive win – I said beforehand that everyone is beatable, and I think everyone was at the races on Saturday and we got the three points.”
“We have a lot of qualities in this team, and I do think that there is more than enough to beat anyone in the League wherever they are in the table – it was massively important to get the three points and to win two of the last three games.”
Morgan netted his first League goal in the defeat at Newport, but admitted, “It was a great feeling as it was the first goal I had scored in a while. There was a lot of personal relief when I saw it go in as I don’t think I’ve gone that long before without a goal – it was a long time. Obviously, it would have been nice to get the win, but it was a big moment for me!”
Morgan left Chelsea’s youth scheme once and spent some time at Southampton, before Chelsea came calling again, and we wondered about his time at Chelsea.
“The competition at Cobham (Chelsea’s training ground) is ruthless, but there with all the best players from around the World coming every week, the levels are a lot higher than anywhere else as it attracts the best players from the youngest ages to the Club. That competitiveness and ruthlessness has been in me since I was there the first time around.”
“When I was young boy, at Christmas the first team players would come over and play a game with us – players like John Terry, who looks after me now and is like a mentor to me at Chelsea; he would come over with players like Drogba and players like that would play a Christmas game with the youngsters and that’s special and it’s things like that, that you remember for the rest of your lives.”
“I think that we are very fortunate at Chelsea with the weight that Chelsea holds in the terms of their name and the players that have gone through the loan system there.”
“I think that there are Clubs who will take the players just because they play for Chelsea on loan. But I do think that the competitiveness in the building is so high and the level in training and people’s drive to be better in training and get better every day is so high!”
“Training here at Priestfield is great and I think it is a good opportunity for me to practice being and giving one hundred percent every single day as it’s something that I was struggling with before I came – having off days and not giving one hundred percent.”
“Coming here, I don’t have time to rest – every single day I have to learn and get better, and I think that that is important for me.”
“I didn’t walk into League Two thinking it was going to be easy at all. I wouldn’t say that there is a lot more quality than I expected – I just think that it was the importance of three points that I underestimated.”
“I didn’t realise how much of an impact the fans have on the team and how important it was every single game to put on a performance that merits people investing money on tickets… that is one thing that surprised me!”
