Charlton are locked in talks with Bristol Rovers about Gas leading scorer, Jonson Clarke-Harris.
The Addicks first approached Rovers on Wednesday afternoon. If the signing goes through, it will the fifth time Clarke-Harris has made a deadline day switch.
One problem is the Gas want to take a loanee player as part of the deal. Given Charlton’s stretched resources, that could be a stumbling block.
Rovers are keen to complete a deal though, so there is a good chance it will happen.
The 25-year-old hit man is in his prime, and would be a good addition to Bowyer’s squad.
There is still a fair bit to do, so it is unlikely Clarke-Harris will sign in time to be available for the Barnsley game.
One deal that gone through though is Aiden McGeady’s switch to The Valley.
McGeady’s arrival was announced just after midnight. The 33-year-old is vastly experienced but has struggled to make an impact at Sunderland.
At his best, he is a nightmare for defenders, and scores is fair share of goals, as well as creating chances for others.
The winger has signed on loan until the end of the season.
Bowyer was thrilled to get the deal over the line and had this to say:
“Bringing in someone with his quality is going to add to the squad. Last season we played against them obviously on three occasions and he’s an exceptional player.
“He brings goals, he brings assists, he’s someone that can make something out of nothing.
“He’s got experience, he’s played in Europe and for his country. We’re bringing in a very good, experienced player.
“Coming into the back end of the season experience can be important, Darren Pratley showed that in the play-off games last season,”Director of Football, Steve Gallen, added:
“I’m pleased. He’s someone I’ve been following personally for years watching him play for Ireland and Celtic in particular.
“We had a good look at him last year because we played against him a few times. We wanted to get someone attacking and someone exciting and I’m pleased we got Aiden.”
Charlton expect to sign another player, as well as McGeady and Clarke-Harris on Friday.
