Invicta Dynamos Head Coach Kevin Parrish has moved quickly to quash rumours of netminder Andy Moffat’s departure by today revealing that the shot stopper has already penned a contract in Gillingham for the 2012/13 season to partner recent arrival David Wride.
30 year old Fife born Andy Moffat began his career in 1997 north of the border with the Fife Flyers in the British National League (BNL) before stints with the Chelmsford Chieftains, Hull Thunder and Isle of Wight Raiders all ahead of the 2002/03 campaign. Having represented Great Britain at both under 18s and under 20s level, Moffat then became a regular number one on the island in the EPL before switching back to the Chelmsford the following year.
The shot stopper would find his place in Essex and spent the next five seasons in the home county – spending three with the Chieftains and two with nearby rivals Romford. 2008/09 then brought a return to Dundee and the chance to ice for his home nation back in Scotland but he would depart again for the southeast as Chelmsford secured his services once more – now in the ENIHL. However, after one final season with the Chieftains at the Riverside, Moffat would arrive in Gillingham at the start of 2010/11 to begin a stint with the Invicta Dynamos that will now enter its third year.
After a campaign in which netminder Andy Moffat played 2,520 minutes for the Dynamos, and recorded a save percentage of 90.31% from 1,693 efforts on his net, Head Coach Kevin Parrish described the shot stopper as a key figure in the team and a player he was delighted to have back for the new season.
Speaking on the goalie’s return Parrish said, “There’s no question that we were reliant on ‘Moffs’ last term, as he was pretty much made to go it alone between the posts, but there is little doubt that he stood up to the challenge. Thrown in at the deep end, in just his second year with us, he carried the burden brilliant and was fully deserving of both the ‘Defenceman of the Year’ and ‘Fans’ Player of the Year’ awards he scooped at the post season presentation evening. We’re very pleased to have him back then and look forward to more exceptional performances between the sticks during 2012/13”.
Parrish then went on to suggest that the pressure would be much reduced on his re-signing following the recent capture of David Wride as he added, “With Wride coming in this year hopefully Andy’s vast workload will be reduced. Having two players capable of battling for the number one spot is not a position we’ve had in Gillingham for the last couple of seasons and I’m delighted to have, what I see as, one of the best netminder combinations in the NIHL”.
Shot stopper Andy Moffat is the sixth player to commit to the Dynamos ahead of the new season with Jack Tarczycki, Tim Smith, Peter Vaisanen, Brad Watchorn and David Wride already on the roster with further set signings to be revealed shortly.
