Netminder Andy Moffat is looking to finish the season with the Invicta Dynamos having come out of retirement to help them win.Andy Moffat6

Moffat retired shortly before Christmas to spend more time with his young family and had been playing for the Invicta Mustangs as an outfield player, but all of that changed on Sunday morning.

With the Dynamos having been beaten 9-3 by the Romford Raiders in the cup and Glen Jackson unvailable to face the Essex side at the Silver Blades Ice Bowl in Gillingham just 24 hours later, Head Coach Kevin Parrish called on Moffat with regular netminder David Wride suspended.

It transpired that Wride was to have been dismissed by the Dynamos with Moffat telling KSN how he had endured a late night in Cardiff on Saturday with the Mustangs, getting home at 3am, to be woken by lots of calls from Parrish asking if he could some out of retirement and help out the side:

“I woke up to see lots of missed calls on my phone and I was thinking he wasn’t ringing just for a chat! I called him back, we had a chat and it transpired he was desperate for someone.”

“He asked if I could come back and I think I did ok seeing as it has been three and half months since I’ve been on the ice as a goalie.”

Moffat was instrumental in seeing the Dynamos turn their fortunes around against the Raiders as they won 7-3 in the league fixture with the Scot taking the Man of the Match award too.

He’d envisaged having played his last game as a netminder, but told KSN before Christmas that he’d always come back to help the team he loves if called upon:

“I didn’t expect to be putting the kit back on, but I had to come back and help the boys out as well as Kev. The main thing was that I could come in and play quite well myself.”

“There’s nothing worse than to come back to help the team out and then getting beat, so to get the win was nice.”

“I had to go and dig all the kit back out of the garage, but once it was on and I was out there, I really enjoyed it.”

Moffat has now been given permission to finish the regular season with the Dynamos and will be their netminder when they travel to the Bracknell Hornets on Saturday night.

Fans can see the Dynamos back in action in Gillingham on Sunday evening when they face the Wightlink Raiders in the league. Face off is at 5:15pm with more information available at www.invictadynamos.co.uk
