Aiden Moffat took part in the final two rounds of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship for Team Hard and he loved every minute of it.
The young Scotsman wasn’t bullied by the more experienced drivers on the grid either as he finished in the points in races in both rounds.
Speaking exclusively to Kent Sports News after the final round of the campaign at Brands Hatch, he said: “It was by far the heaviest rain I’ve raced in, and by far the most powerful car I’ve raced in the wet conditions so it was a big learning curve for us and more experience.
“It’s a great track to race. It has always been a track I have enjoyed and it is far more exciting again when it is packed with cars. Thankfully I have never really been too fazed by cars around me, I actually prefer there being more cars.”
Aiden was delighted to be able to score points in his first two races in the season and was impressed by how competitive he and the team were.
He added: “We all are. We were a lot stronger than we thought we would be, so to get in the points again is a very big positive to take away from the meeting. We had a chance of getting good points in race one as well but were I was sitting, there was no point in taking it easy in my view so I pushed the car and unfortunately spun.
“I feel that will teach me more than racing for a present position down the grid. The ultimate aim is to get good times, getting points is just a bonus.
“The aim for me always has to be to finish races as the important thing at this stage is simply getting laps under the belt. We seem to get a bit more confident with the car and quicker with each run in it, so putting in the maximum laps we can is very important. At the same time, we don’t want the aim of finishing to compromise our pace.”
Being a young racing driver he looks up to the more experienced drivers on the grid and enjoyed racing them during his time in the BTCC.
“Without a doubt. They are the drivers everybody looks up to including myself and there isn’t a better place to be in terms or learning from the drivers around you.
“Team Hard are a great team to be a part of. They are a very professional group and more of a family than a race team. Tony and the drivers are great to have for receiving tips, and the team will always go out of their way for you.
“You hear all sorts of opinions about this team but that by no means does them justice. They have been great to work with and I would be more than happy to be part of them in the future in whatever formula that may be.
“Tony is always willing to help. He is great to have there for tips as well as Jack, Warren and the rest. Having their advice was a great help for me.”
With the season now over for 2013 attention is turning to 2014 for Aiden and his dream would to be part of the BTCC grid.
He said: “Well needless to say I would love to be in the BTCC but we haven’t really had a chance to sit down and discuss next year’s plans. Before entering the BTCC I had always been interested in the Clio Cup, however the Mini Cooper Cup in Scotland is one of the closest race series I have seen, which helped me progress as a driver.
“There are a few race series that we have been interested in so it will ultimately depend on the sponsorship we receive, that will be the decider so it will really be a case of time will tell.”
