Aiden Moffat made his debut for Team HARD in the last round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Silverstone last time out.
The young racing driver instantly impressed in his first outing in the VW Passat put together by the Gravesend based team run by Tony Gilham.
Speaking exclusively to Kent Sports News after the race weekend, Aiden said: “I think it went really well and was a big step in the right direction for me as a driver and us as a team. I got a lot more confident with the car and lap times fell as the weekend progressed.
“To walk away with points from the weekend was a massive boost to us and was something we never expected to achieve at this stage.”
Aiden is no stranger to the BTCC having made his debut in the series this season in the S2000 class but driving a New Generation Touring Car is a totally different kettle of fish.
He added: “Unfortunately we never got a clean run in the s2000 due to mechanical issues, however there is a massive difference with regards to grip and braking force. The hardest thing was to learn to trust what was underneath you, with how late and hard you could brake, and how much speed you could carry through the corners.
“The main objective for us was to finish races as the crucial thing for us at this stage is seat time. Hopefully with seat time and experience will come pace. Like I said scoring points was something we never expected and was a massive confidence boost and hopefully, a sign of better things to come.
“Throughout Saturday we found a few seconds and each time I went out on track we got a bit faster, showing seat time is what is crucial for us.”
Ahead of the final round of the season Aiden took the opportunity to get in some valuable testing time in the Passat at Brands Hatch last weekend, at a track he loves racing on.
He said: “A day’s worth of testing was done on the Indy track but we will not be on the GP track before the race.
“I am very much looking forward to racing here. The only experience I have of the GP track is from the last meeting of the year in 2012 in a Junior Ginetta. It is a track I really enjoy so I am looking forward to seeing what we can do.”
With the season drawing to a close we asked Aiden if he had plans for the 2014 season yet, but it was clear that he is focussing on finishing this one before he thinks of next season.
“Currently we have no plans for next year. With the final BTCC meeting remaining as well as two Fiesta ST meetings and a Mini Cooper meeting, I am putting my focus into these races and once the season is over and done with, that is when we will sit down and have a thorough think about next year’s prospects. BTCC will come down entirely to funding and whether or not we can string together some sponsorship.”
