MK Dons 0-1 Bromley

Bromley picked up their first win since the beginning of January with a hard fought 1-0 win away at Milton Keyes Dons courtesy of a Ben Thompson goal on the hour at Stadium MK on Saturday afternoon.

Bromley went into the game lining up 4-5-1 with Deji Elerewe coming back into the defence to partner Byron Webster in the middle.

After a slow start to the game which just saw a couple of wayward efforts from the home side, it was Bromley who had the first shot on target when Cameron Congreve broke clear and hit a powerful drive which Trueman saved and then the keeper got up to gather the effort from Thompson on the rebound.

The Ravens struggled to get any cohesive play together going forward with some wayward passing and the home side had the better of things with Hendry firing over and Elerewe making a great block to deny Hogan in the six yard box.

Late in the half Lemonheigh-Evans put in a dangerous cross which Webster blocked and Kelly then blasted the loose ball over the bar from just inside the box.

The second half saw The Dons go close when Hendry headed wide, before The Ravens had a good spell.

Jude Arthurs had a shot deflected wide, before the visitors were given a great chance to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty. Lemonheigh-Evans brought down Congreve just side the area and Referee James Durkin did not hesitate to point to the spot.

Michael Cheek stepped up to take the penalty and drove it straight down the middle only for Trueman to stick out a leg and deflect the ball up and out to safety. The Dons then had their own shout for a penalty tuned away when Gilbey had a shot block in the area, but it was Bromley who would go on to break the deadlock on the hour.

Danny Imray raced down the right and put in a low dangerous cross that Thompson met on the six yard box to convert with a controlled side foot effort for 1-0.

Andy Woodman’s side then had their tails up and pressed for another with Trueman making a great double save from Arthurs and Congreve after good work from Imray and Thompson down the right.

As the half went on Milton Keynes started to come back into things and pressed for an equaliser with Gilbey having a shot tipped over by Grant Smith, but Bromley kept them at bay for the most part and still threatened on the break.

Corey Whitely crossed for Cheek who was denied at the near post by Trueman and Whitely then had a shot saved by the home keeper after racing clear on the counter attack.

As the game headed into the eight minutes of injury time, The Dons had a series of corners and set pieces, coming closest when Lawrence forced a great save from Smith, but Bromley held out and secured all three points.

Bromley moved up to thirteenth in the table and now have a week to prepare for the visit of Fleetwood Town to Hayes Lane next Saturday.
