On Sunday 6 March, RAP Interiors sponsored Team Medway Mariners travelled up to Norfolk for the second leg of the Eastern Counties League.

The team were keen to do well this day after the disappointment of the first lot of results at their home tournament in January.

The team was strengthened, by a young player who hadn’t played for a few seasons, and returned back at this tournament.

The first game against Cambridge saw Medway Mariners, finding their skates, and working as a team, having them win 3 v 2 Cambridge. A young Harry Chittenden scoring the first goal, followed by Captain Ian Bates, and a third by Harry C.

The second game against a strong Wallsall, saw Medway lose 3 v 6, with returning player Angelo Moutinho scoring 2 goals and Captain Ian Bates 1

Medway’s third game, was against hosting team Norwich. It was an even contest in the first half, with Norwich points ahead 2 points to Medway’s 1.

In the second half Norwich scored 3 consecutive goals, and Medway found themselves losing 5-1. Medway then rallied themselves together to equal the score 5 all, with goals from Angelo Moutinho and Harry Chittinden.

Captain Ian Bates scored putting Medway in the Lead 6-5, with two minutes to go Norwich managed a soft equaliser and the game looking to end in a draw.

With 50 seconds on the clock, Medway was awarded a penalty. Angelo Moutinho stepped up to take the penalty successfully, making Medway winners of the last game against the hosts

The day was successful and entertaining and Sports England & Kent Sport Funded club, Medway Mariners who left Norfolk on a high, placing Medway 4th in the Eastern Counties League.
