Last weekend, for the first time this season, the Tonbridge Bobcats faced off against the Kent Mariners in a top the table clash in the village of Hoo.
With first place in the league on the line, both teams were eager to dominate the division.
Game 1 saw both teams coming out firing on all cylinders, and going into the last inning, with a score of 17-16 to the Bobcats, it could have gone either way. However, good plate discipline and timely hitting mixed with great fielding, saw Tonbridge prevail 26-19 and win game 1.
Complacency was not an option for the Bobcats in game 2, knowing that another victory here would see them top the division, for now.
Starting brightly again, which hasn’t always been a Tonbridge Baseball trait, the Bobcats led 4-2 after the 1st inning and never looked back, resulting in a 14-4 victory.
These results now mean the Bobcats lead the division with a 13-2 record, with the Mariners close behind on 12-3.
Attention now swiftly moves onto this coming Sunday with another Bobcats v Mariners doubleheader, this time at Borley Field, Tonbridge.
Both teams go into the game knowing wins are vital as we enter the “business” end of the season. First pitch is 12pm at Borley Field, Tonbridge with spectators able to watch for free.
Also on Sunday the 6th, in Double AA baseball, the Wildcats faced the Kent Hurricanes for the third time this season, at home on Borley Field in Tonbridge.
In game 1, the two teams engaged in a tightly contested match that saw a back-and-forth battle. The Hurricanes managed to edge out a narrow victory, defeating the Wildcats by a score of 10 to 9.
The game was characterised by its competitive nature, with both teams showcasing their offensive prowess and defensive efforts throughout the match.
However, in game two, the Hurricanes came out even stronger with a score of 14 to 7.
The Hurricanes’ displayed consistency in pitching and batting, preventing the Wildcats from mounting a substantial comeback.
