Once again it was contrasting races for the two local drivers in the GP2 sprint race this morning at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain.
Tonbridge’s Adrian Quaife-Hobbs brought his MP Motorsport machine home in 21st place with Jolyon Pamler just outside the podium places in fourth place.
It represents a fantastic weekend for the son of Brands Hatch circuit owner Jonathan Palmer, with a third in the feature race followed up with the solid fourth place in the sprint race.
The race victory was taken by Stefano Coletti as he claimed his second race victory of the season, as he held off the challenges of Robin Frijns and Felipe Nasr who came home in third place.
Once again it was the pole man just like in the feature race yesterday that didn’t lead into the first corner as the eventual race winner who led into the first corner and controlled the race from there on in until the chequered flag was waved.
Everyone had a battle on their hands as they tried to maintain their tyres as they were at a risk of going off quickly in the heat on the track.
Coletti now leads the championship by 17 points from Nasr and Leimar as Frijns moved up into fourth after a great weekend, in sixth place now is Jolyon Palmer with 31 points just two behind Sam Bird in fifth place.
The GP2 series will be back on track over the weekend of the 25th and 26th May as the season rolls onto the Circuit de Monaco for the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, where everyone will want to win on race day at this prestigious event.
