It was very much a weekend of mixed fortunes for Kent’s teams and drivers in the latest round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park.
Tunbridge Wells racer Mike Bushell would suffer mechanical issues which would mean he didn’t make the start of races one and two, and in race three he was involved in an incident that would end his race.
He did get out in race two and managed to get nine laps completed, and in race three he had completed 18 laps when an incident with Dave Newsham ended his race.
Andy Wilmot from Dartford looked like he had conquered the issues that precluded him from racing at Brands Hatch in the opening round, when he took to the track for race one. However, four laps later he was parked up and took no further part in the weekend due to a Head Gasket blowing.
Team Hard who are based just a stone’s throw from Brands Hatch however had another solid and reliable weekend in their Toyota Avensis. Kieran Gallagher is improving round by round and is not far off challenging for points finishes.
This time out he bagged a 21st place finish in race one of the weekend, he then improved on that in the second race with a 20th place finish. Race three was the best one for Kieran finishing in 18th place.
Elsewhere in the support series the Kent based contingent fared slightly better especially in the Clio Cup where Jack Mitchell found himself on the podium, in only his second race weekend in the series.
In race one Mitchell finished in fifth place, however Paul Knapp didn’t manage to finish the race managing just five laps.
Mitchell then went one better for SV Racing in race two with a fourth place finish, whilst Knapp took the Masters class victory. Race three saw Mitchell go one better again and finish on the podium in third place, whilst Knapp followed his victory up with a second place in the Masters class.
The Ginetta Juniors served up some fantastic racing and Dave Wooder and Esmee Hawkey were out there competing in the action. Wooder was unfortunately out of the race on lap two of the opening contest. Hawkey went on to finish in 18th place.
Race two went a lot better for Wooder as he came home in 13th place and Hawkey would finish in 22nd place.
Meanwhile in the MSA Formula, Rochester based MBM and their driver Jack Barlow had another solid weekend, with eighth in race one, fourth in race two and fifth in race three. Which leaves him in sixth place overall in the championship.
