Alex Nevill left Croft Circuit with mixed emotions, after a weekend that promised plenty, but delivered little in the way of results, following round four of the Mini Challenge Cooper Pro championship on the 17th-18th August.
Starting 7th for race one, the Dartford racer showed great pace and made his way up to third place.
But whilst fighting to keep what would’ve been Nevill’s first podium in the class, damage sustained in contact with another car resulted in a retirement from the race with just two laps to go.
The Lawrence Davey Racing team were able to fix the car for Sunday’s race two, climbing as high as 4th place from last on the grid before slipping back to 6th at the finish.
Whilst the result gives Nevill more points that were much needed after Saturday’s DNF, he left the circuit pondering what might’ve been.
Speaking after the weekend, Nevill said: “Saturday’s race will sting for a while to come, to have lost out on a podium like that so close to the finish is gutting, but it was my mistake and I will learn from it.
“We have to look at the positives, we were up there at the front and I know we can achieve that again before the season ends.”
Nevill and the rest of the Copper Pro field will next be in action on the 7th September at Cadwell Park.
