Charlton exited the FA Cup after extra-time on a wet night, at a sparsely populated stadium:mk on Tuesday evening.
They more than held their own, and had the better chances in normal time.
Both clubs fielded weakened teams. For the Addicks, only Dillon Phillips, Ezri Konsa and Adam Chicksen were retained from the side that started at Bradford on Saturday.
The Dons left regular fist teamers David
Martin, Samir Carruthers, Ben Reeves and Kieran Agard on the bench.
The hosts took the lead after just six minutes, when Daniel Powell latched on to a loose ball to beat Phillips.
The Addicks levelled midway through the half. Dons old boy, Adam Chicksen, cut in from the left and fired across Lee Nicholls and into the far corner.
Charlton’s injury jinx struck again before the break. Lee Novak being the unfortunate victim this time.
Joe Aribo was impressive in the Addicks’ midfield, but Konsa picked up another booking.
Karl Ronbinson’s side had the better chances after the interval and both Ademola Lookman and substitute, Nicky Ajose, we’re foiled by Nicholls in one-on-one situations.
As the game neared it’s conclusion, it was the Dons who finished the stronger, but extra time was needed to separate the teams.
Two well taken goals in the opening period from Ben Reeves and Dean Bowditch were enough to send Milton Keynes through.
Charlton will now have a blank Saturday on 7 January. Scheduled opponents, Rochdale, are still involved in the Cup.
