Anthony Wordworth, Karim Frei, Andros Townsend and Hogan Ephraim have all been mentioned as possible arrivals at The Valley.
Some reports are saying that Wordsworth will sign for Ipswich this week, whilst others claim the Camden born midfielder would prefer to join Charlton, and is prepared to wait until the summer, if it ensures a move to The Valley.
What is clear is that Chris Powell is keen to bolster the left hand side of his midfield. Salim Kerkar has been disappointing, Johnnie Jackson is more effective in the middle which leaves the Addicks weak on the left. Young Callum Harriott was impressive on Saturday but Powell may consider that he is not yet ready for the rigours of the Championship on a regular basis.
Simeon Jackson, Marvin Sordell and latterly, DJ Campbell and Iain Hume have been mentioned as Charlton targets. Leon Clarke has left for Coventry, while there are persistent rumours that Bradley Wright-Phillips will leave The Valley this month. The four potential targets are all poachers, so would be a like-for-like replacement for Wright-Phillips.
Clearly, Powell wants to tweak his strike force and has intimated he wants Championship hardened players to come in to strengthen the squad. All of the four strikers mentioned meet the manager’s criteria.
