Charlton Athletic have completed the signing of former West Ham United midfielder Alou Diarra on Monday morning.

The player, who was with West Ham last season, becomes the first player on the club’s books to have played in a World Cup Final. Diarra replaced Patrick Vieira in 2006.

With the Under-21’s match with Cardiff at Sparrows Lane being postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, Diarra may well be in the senior squad for Tuesday’s match at Derby.

He will wear the number 12 shirt and is an ideal replacement for the injured Milos Veljkovic.
