Kent Spitfires will travel to Middlesex on Saturday with the hope of picking up their first win of the 2020 T20 Blast.
Matt Walker’s men have one point from one game at the moment, after rain ruined their opening match against Hampshire despite Kent dominating throughout the game.
The Spitfires restricted Hampshire to 139/6 from their 20 overs before dashing to 52/0 from four overs and one ball thanks to Daniel Bell-Drummond and Zak Crawley, but, with just five balls needed to constitute a game, the rain arrived and robbed Kent of an opening day win.
Like Kent, Middlesex were in prime position to win on the opening day after putting 184 on the board against Essex, mainly thanks to a Max Holden century, but rain too ruined their chances of a possible and likely victory.
Seamer Tim Groenewald and spinner Hamidullah Qadri have been added to Kent’s squad for the game, and the duo could make their white ball debuts for the club after joining in the off season.
The additions take Kent’s squad to 14 for the game. Also included are Fred Klaassen and Matt Milnes who starred with the ball against Hampshire, and Zak Crawley, who hit an unbeaten 22 from nine balls against Hampshire following his 267 for England in the third test against Pakistan last week.
Club captain and vice-captain Sam Billings and Joe Denly respectively are unavailable for county selection after being named in England’s T20 squad for the series against Pakistan, so Daniel Bell-Drummond will once again lead the side.
Heino Kuhn is still unavailable for selection due to personal reasons.
Kent squad to face Middlesex: Daniel Bell-Drummond (C), Alex Blake, Jordan Cox, Zak Crawley, Tim Groenewald, Calum Haggett, Fred Klaassen, Jack Leaning, Matt Milnes, Marcus O’Riordan, Imran Qayyum, Ollie Robinson, Hamidullah Qadri, Grant Stewart.
