Charlton’s strong finish to the season may have come a little too late to propel them into the play-offs.
Middlesbrough seemed likely to be involved in the end of season lottery for much of the campaign but their recent slump has scuppered their chances.
Boro have some quality players in their ranks, such as Scott McDonald, Kieron Dyer and Chelsea loanee, Josh McEachran. Former Valley favourite, Nicky Bailey, has been confined to bench duties recently.
Andy Hughes and Johnnie Jackson sustained injuries last week and although both have trained, Chris Powell will have to decide whether to play safe and put them on the bench if there are doubts about their fitness.
Ideally, the manager would like to field an unchanged side again. The consistency of shape and personnel has coincided with the good run, so Powell will have to base his decision on the fitness level of midfield duo. Mark Gower, Danny Green, Lawrie Wilson and Dale Stephens will come into the equation if Jackson or Hughes are ruled out.
Danny Haynes played in the Under-21 game against Millwall on Monday and he is another pushing for a place on the bench.
The Addicks could look like this:
Hamer; Solly, Morrison, Dervite, Wiggins; Pritchard, Hughes, Jackson, Harriott; Kermorgant, Fuller.
Subs: Button, Taylor, Green, Wilson, Gower, Kerkar, Obika.
Darren Drysdale from Lincolnshire will take charge of the match.
This is probably a good time for Charlton to be playing Boro and Powell will fancy his chances of keeping the good run going.
