Merstham 2-0 Folkestone Invicta
Merstham 2-0 Folkestone Invicta

Merstham  scored  once in each half to end Invicta’s unbeaten away record for this season and climbed above Invicta in the Bostik Premier Division table at The Moatfield on Tuesday.

Still without the injured Ian Draycott and with top scorer Ade Yusuff going off three minutes before the half-time interval, this was also the first time since August that Invicta have failed to find the net as they suffered only their second loss of the campaign.

The home side broke the deadlock on 13 minutes through Yousseff Bamba with Kieron McCann going closest to producing a first half equaliser when his effort was well saved by keeper Chris Haigh on 37 minutes.

Sam Hasler’s long range shot flew just wide just after the hour and the same player forced another good save from the goalkeeper as the game went into the final ten minutes.

But this was not to be Invicta’s night and Merstham substitute Alex Addai doubled his side’s lead with two minutes of normal time left as Hayden Bird’s men avenged the 2-1 defeat they suffered at the Fullicks Stadium in the first week of the season.

Folkestone ended the day 12th in the table – but with games in hand on all but one other club in the division while this weekend’s opponents Met Police recorded a perhaps surprisingly comfortable 4-1 win over Dorking Wanderers and lie six points lower than Neil Cugley’s men.
