Gillingham midfielder Jacob Mellis has signed for Southend United on a deal until the end of the season, with the option of a further year.
The 30-year-old midfielder, formerly of Bolton and Barnsley, signed for Gills in the summer and played ten times in all competitions, scoring one goal in the process.
His departure follows hot on the heels of midfielder James Morton joining The Gills on loan until the end of the season from Bristol City.
Mellis could make his debut for the Seasiders at home to Walsall this weekend in Sky Bet League Two.
Meanwhile, striker John Akinde was also linked with a deadline day move to Southend United, but that never materialised, with no further action in or out at Priestfield.
However, Zech Medley’s departure from Gillingham has finally been confirmed with the defender having been recalled by Arsenal and then sent straight back out on loan – this time to Scottish Premier League side Kilmarnock.
