Ebssfleet United drew at home to Woking in the opening round of the FA Trophy on Saturday afternoon, and in truth they probably should have progessed to the next round.
However, they will have to do it all again as they travel to Woking on Tuesday evening for the replay, although McMahon though they deserved more from the game, he is looking forward to the replay in midweek.
There was a sense of relief about Ebbsfleet’s manager, Daryl McMahon as he said “I thought we deserved something out of the game today. We started pretty well, although there was a spell in the first half where Woking took over. We recovered well and I thought in the last 20-25 minutes we dominated it. But we know they are good on the counter-attack and we can look forward to Tuesday night.”
McMahon was pleased with the impact his replacements had on the game, explaining “both of them bring terrific energy, especially Stuey (Stuart Lewis), and it was one of those games, very stop-start, where we could really get a flow going. Stuey came on, ruffled a few feathers and started to get his own tempo going. Even Darren (McQueen) came into the pocket when he couldn’t get in behind and helped us. It was a good performance today.”
So a replay will be required on Tuesday night to decide who continues in the FA Trophy this season. But it is a game that McMahon is looking forward to. He added “it’s a good opportunity to go and play there. I don’t see it as a hindrance, I’m looking forward to playing against Woking again. They are a decent side.”
