Cheltenham Town left-back George McLennan has been linked with a move to Gillingham.
The 20-year-old is from Ashford and The Gills are said to be the suited club for the youngster as he prepares to move closer to home.
McLennan signed for Cheltenham last July as a free agent, after being released by Reading and became manager Gary Johnson’s 10th signing last summer.
The Scotland Under-19 International made 38 appearances for the Whaddon Road side last season in the National League, where the club gained an immediate return to the Football League with promotion as champions.
George McLennan actually started his career with The Gills at youth-level but left in 2012 to join Reading.
Gillingham will have to pay a compensation fee for the defender as a result of him being under the age of 24 but, with McLennan not being a product of Cheltenham Town’s academy and only being at the club for one year, the fee is likely to be less-substantial.
