Two more League wins will cap a remarkable season for Cray Valley PM and clinch a Play Off place in the Isthmian Premier that back in August Steve McKimm and his players could only have dreamed of.

Going into the weekend, Valley face Carshalton Athletic at home before travelling to Medway to face Chatham Town before finishing the season at home to Jay Saunders’ Folkestone Invicta with McKimm admitting two more wins will see his side into the post season, despite losing three points to an admin error.
“Six more points and I think we’re safely in,” the Valley boss told us. “Every game has been a big game for us this season. It’s been enjoyable and hopefully we can get three points on Friday and then kick on at Chatham on Monday.”
“At the start of the season, remembering it’s been our first season at this level, I felt that after ten games we would see where we were and how we could settle into the League, and we did.”
“After ten games we knew that we could be up there and from then it was about the consistency, these boys have been consistent all season. But we still have a lot of work to do.”
“The secretary is gutted about the points deduction with it being this tight, but it’s one of those things that happen – it’s not the end of the World, no one died, we live to fight another day and we bounced back immediately after it happened and as I said, if we can get a couple more wins then it will all be forgotten about!”
“We have home games with Whitehawk who are a decent side – new manager who has kept them safe this year- and then Folkestone, another side with a new management team and players playing for places and a chance to stay at the Club next year. We know it’s not going to be easy!”
“We are just looking at ourselves as we have three tough games and if we can take five points from the three we are definitely in the Play Offs, and if we take more, we could finish higher in the table – fourth is the best we can finish now, but we will just strive to win as many of the three as we can and as many points as we can!”
“In terms of who wins it, I’d love to be in any one of their positions – all three (Dartford, Billericay Town and Horsham) are good sides and all three of them have a chance of getting promoted automatically.”
“That though isn’t us, we can’t worry about that; what I look at is what we can do, and if we can get the wins that we need to get the points we need to get in the Play Offs, it will have been a fantastic season.”
“But then we will have to reassess things and play the extra game or games if we are successful enough!”
“I’ve been on both sides of the Play Offs – winning and losing – everyone would rather be in them than not be in them, whether you worry about it or concerned about it, if you’re in them, you have a chance, and if you’re not you have a long close-season to sort yourselves out for next season. If we can get ourselves in, we will be very happy!”
