The race for the Isthmian South-East title took another twist on Tuesday as Cray Valley PM kept up their amazing one hundred percent away record and as they prepare to face Hythe Town at Badgers this weekend, manager Steve McKimm has been talking to KSN.
We spoke to McKimm after his side’s 6-0 win at Beckenham Town had lifted them back to the summit of the table after Ramsgate went down to defeat at Horndean.
McKimm was naturally delighted with his side’s Tuesday night performance as he told us, “It was a very professional performance. The boys hit the ground running from the off – we knew what we were up against and they executed everything we wanted them to do very well and all credit to those who played and were part of the squad because it’s not easy going to the side bottom of the league – it’s a banana skin but we managed to turn it into a comfortable evening!”
“Our squad is a good one – we had a couple of injuries and had a couple who had not been involved for a few weeks and they came in and looked like they had not been missing!”
“We have a good balance all over – everything seems to be going well at the moment, but you never run away with yourselves as you never know what’s round the corner.”
“We have got to keep our heads down, keep working hard in training and when games come along and make sure we put our best foot forward to get the points we need.”
“I can’t look at other results – I’m concentrating on what we do and who we have to play, rather than anyone else because I can’t wave a magic wand and hope that teams around us lose or we win every game, it’s just what happens on the day, we won Tuesday and now our focus goes to Hythe!”
Steve Watt’s side will travel to Eltham after having two midweek games on Tuesday and Thursday and still harbouring their own Play Off hopes with games still in hand of those above them, a point that McKimm acknowledged.
“I think they’re ten points off the Play Off with five games in hand.” he said.
“What Steve did last year and the remarkable run they had at the end of the season to get in the Play Offs, getting to the Final.”
“It is no surprise that they can go on the run that they have already. They have a tough week this week playing us as the fourth game in eight days – it does not matter how big or small your squad is, it’s a tough ask!”
“But I know what Steve Watt teams are like, I know the mentality he puts into them, so with the run they had last year, they will take the positives out of that to get into the Play Offs and they will continue to strive to do that this year!”
