McKimm can’t wait for FA Cup tie

Cray Valley PM will be looking to claim a place in the First-Round proper of the FA Cup for just the second time when they welcome Enfield Town to the Badgers on Saturday.

And after knocking Carshalton Athletic out of both Cup and FA Trophy in the past week, boss Steve McKimm cannot wait…

Speaking to KSN ahead of the tie, the Valley boss told us, “The boys and the staff have worked very hard in Cup after Cup. I have told the players just to take whatever is put in front of them – this week we have Enfield and after the efforts against Carshalton, we know that they will be equally as tough, if not tougher, as they are flying in their League.”

“We will be the underdog as we are in a League below regardless of what anyone says, and we will relish pitting our wits against the team from above as it’s where we aspire to be and give a good account of what Cray Valley can do!”

“I have played against them many times in the Cup when I was at Dulwich and other sides – they have always had a good side with a good following, so we are hoping to get a decent crowd which will add to how tough it is going to be for us.”

“They are a good Cup side; they are a good League side; they’ve been known in Non-League for many years and they will be tough, stiff opponents and Gav MacPherson will have them playing the same way that Met Police did when he was there – tough, organised and good – and we will have to make sure that we are one hundred percent at it to get anything from the game and be in the First Round draw.”

“The League must be thanked for helping by calling off our League game on Tuesday as they have done for all sides playing in the Cup this weekend.”

“It’s something they’ve done for a few years; if there is a chance of getting a side into the First Round proper to highlight how good the League is – it’s very good from the Isthmian League in that respect, as it gives teams a chance to prepare for probably one of the most important games of the season financially, because if you get into the First Round – and it’s ifs, buts or maybes – get a League side, maybe some TV cameras, you could earn some big money out of it.”

“So, we have got to use the extra preparation time that we have been given to give you a head start in that game.”

“The people at the Club have been telling me how exciting the Fourth Qualifying win four years ago against Maidenhead was, which was a great day before they played Havant – again it could have been written in the stars as after they got beaten by Havant, Havant got beaten by Marine who then faced Tottenham in the Third Round!”

“It is one of those crazy ones as to what could have been – we have all got those stories in football!”

“All we have got to do is to concentrate on this game on Saturday! If we start running away with yourself, it is another “what if” moment. We have got to concentrate on Saturday and if we are in the bag on Monday, what comes your way will come!”

McKimm is hoping to have a full squad to choose from after reporting “just a few niggles” after the three games against Carshalton in both FA Cup and FA Trophy
