Maxwell ready for Herne Bay challenge

Off the back of their six-goal drubbing of Hythe Town at the weekend, Sittingbourne are back in action at the Staxson Stadium, Woodstock tonight as another former Brickies boss brings his new team to face the Brickies.

After Nick Davis and the Cannons were well beaten on Saturday, tonight is the turn of Steve Lovell and his Herne Bay side as Ryan Maxwell goes into the game knowing that three more points could take his side back into the division’s top three.

Talking about Saturday’s win, the Brickies boss admitted, “Saturday was a brilliant result for us, six-nil is a great result whatever way you look at it!

“I think that we had been threatening to do that to someone for a while we had been so close, and teams have defended very well against us, and we have not had the run of the green in terms of goals recently after starting the season scoring lots of goals.”

“I had a different view of Saturday not being on the bench, it was one of those things that we must deal with and serving a suspension and I was not able to sit either because I am suffering from sciatica at the moment, and I had to stand. I was on the phone constantly to my staff so that was good it was a different view but same outcome.”

Striker Mitch May took his season’s tally to fourteen goals, but the boss was not completely happy with his number nine, he explained, “I know that Mitch will take the plaudits from the game, but I did feel that there were a few outstanding performances.

“Obviously when you score four goals, you will get all the plaudits. But we must give the keeper, and the back-four credit for keeping the clean-sheet but for me the outstanding player on the day was Jay Beckford who was brilliant, he was everywhere. And as well as that, when he got the ball, he produced quality.

“He for me was the standout closely followed by Codey Cosgrave for a man who has just turned nineteen he played with such maturity, a brilliant performance there is a real talent there and a player with real, real potential there!”

“It was a great result, great game, and an exceptionally good day at the office for sure!”

Turning his attention to the midweek action at the Staxson Stadium, Maxwell told us, “We know that tonight will be a vastly different game as Herne Bay are a very good side, with some good players, and we know what threat they will possess, we know that we will have to be at our best.

“We have had them watched, have information on them and know some of their players quite well anyway. I am expecting a different game from the weekend, and we will be prepared for it!”
