Sittingbourne welcome Merstham to the Staxson Stadium, Woodstock at the end of a stunning week for Ryan Maxwell’s side and the boss is keen to carry on that form.
After the Brickies humbled National League South Enfield Town to progress in the FA Trophy last weekend, a magnificent last quarter on the road at Herne Bay on Tuesday followed as the home side were humbled 4-0.
Reflecting first on the weekend’s Trophy win, Maxwell told KSN, “Following from the tremendous day in the Trophy last Saturday, we got back to the bread and butter of the league at Herne Bay on Tuesday and showed real professionalism is the word I think is right to use.”
“It would have been easy for the players to get carried away after beating Enfield on Saturday and be on Cloud Nine for too long and maybe take their eye off the ball.”
“That was the biggest challenge that we faced away from home on Tuesday in a Kent derby that wasn’t going to be easy anyway, there was always going to be a potential hangover, but I am delighted that we showed real professionalism.”
“Coming in at 0-0 which hasn’t been the case for quite a while and I think that there is only one word to describe our second half and that is fantastic! From my point of view I’m delighted that we have come through another great week with everyone playing their part.”
“Last Saturday of course was a little piece of history for the Club and no-one can take that away from anyone involved as we broke a record and made a bit of Brickies history which is something to be proud of.”
“We are on here on the planet for a short time and to do something that is so significant is an achievement. I am so pleased for everyone associated with the Club before we arrived so that you can say “yes I was there and was part of that!”
“It is a really significant thing that the boys delivered on Saturday and I am so pleased for the fans, the best fans in this League and without doubt the best fans that I have come across.”
“I really am so pleased for everyone involved that we were able to overcome a Step Two side and it will live long in my memory for sure.”
“We now know that we will face Salisbury in the next round after they won 3-2 at Chesham United on Tuesday and I think that says a lot in itself, they scored three goals at Chesham away from home and they will be a very difficult side to play against; two levels above us as Enfield were but better off currently in the League and we will have a really tough task ahead of us.”
“We will do a lot of work on them when the time comes, but we have four really important League games before then starting with Merstham on Saturday”.
“Merstham are a very different side to the one we faced last year and make no bones they are a very good side this year! Towards the top of the form guide and have good attacking players and it will be a tough, tough game.”
“We have to make sure that we treat them with the fullest of respect and a humble attitude, every team in this division can hurt you and it will be a tough game this afternoon and we will need everyone’s full support to help keep our unbeaten run going.”
