Gillingham have another Saturday off this weekend as the build up to the first ever Football League derby against Bromley begins and we spoke to defender Conor Masterson ahead of the clash.
In a week where there was so much to talk about – mainly off the field and the reaction to last weekend’s defeat to Harrogate – KSN spoke to Conor Masterson about the defeat and looking ahead to what the Gills can expect at Hayes Lane on Wednesday night!
“It will be a tough challenge at Bromley as they are doing OK,” the young Irish defender told us, “I dont think they have won many games, but I know that they haven’t lost many either and are very difficult to beat.”
“It is going to be tough and with it being a derby too, we are really looking forward to it and want to put things right!”
“It was a tough one to take on Saturday and we are all massively looking to bounce back straight away. Us in the dressing were hurting a lot after losing to Harrogate and we want to put things right again – we know that the run that we are on at the moment doesn’t help, but we know that there is enough talent in the dressing room to put things right.”
“We have to go on another run – we know we can do it as we did it at the start of the season so we want to do it again and that’s what we are aiming for with Christmas coming up!”
“We were all very frustrated last weekend as it was a game that we should have won. We were one nil up with half an hour to play; I don’t know how many 1-0 wins we have had before, but “usually” we can see it out and not doing so at the weekend really was a tough one to take.”
“And that’s why emotions ran very high as we all care about Gillingham Football Club and we want to do well and at the end we were hurting and we want to put things right!”
“We probably sat back when we should have gone for a second goal, but when you look back obviously, but in the game it didn’t feel like that – it felt that Harrogate came straight onto us and we just had some sloppy moments when we couldn’t get out of our half and when you look back, you do think what would have happened if we had done things differently, but hindsight is a great thing…”
“We just have to keep working hard – we’ve had a lot of meetings about it this week where we can improve and develop!”
“We walked into the dressing room – and I cannot repeat to you what was said – but there was a lot of hurting players in there.”
“I know that people can say this and that (about the game), but we all care and want to do well for Gillingham and that’s what we are going to try and make things better and improve to keep working hard and end the season with a strong finish to what we all want!”
“We all care and we want to put things right as there is a lot of talented players in our group and we want to put things right!”
