Exciting Bradford winger, Mark Marshall, has been strongly rumoured to be a Charlton target, but Karl Robinson seems to have poured cold water on the story.

Here is what he said to the South London Press:

“Up until last week he was a Bradford player and he’ll go away and re-assess.

“There will be a number of teams in League One who will try and push for him.

“I do like him as a footballer and person but it’s got to fit within what we’re trying to do next season.

“Listen, we like him. But it’s not a case that we have spoken to him or anybody in relation to that deal. We have got a few others in the pipeline that we’re trying to get done first.”

If Robinson has a few deals in the pipeline, why not add another to it? Though the statement says Charlton have not spoken to anybody about Marshall, it could be that the player is going to take time to consider his options.

It would be a surprise if Marshall and his agent were not aware of the Addicks’ interest.

One of the deals Robinson said was in the pipeline could be for Oxford midfielder, Liam Sercombe.

Exeter born Sercombe made over 200 appearances for his home town club before swithching to Oxford in 2015.

Sercombe is an energetic, vocal, box-to-box midfielder who has the‎ leadership qualities Robinson desires.

‎The 27-year-old was a regular at the Kassam before being frozen out for disciplinary reasons during the last month of the season.

Missing the Checkatrade Trophy Final at Wembley was probably the final straw, though Oxford have activated a year’s extension to his contract.

But that was just to guarantee the club a fee as manager, Michael Appleton, explained:

“We’ve had quite a few enquiries regarding him (Sercombe).

“No one has made an offer yet, but I’m expecting one club to shortly.

“We’ve had a lot of people enquire about whether he’s available.

“Obviously the answer is yes, but there will be a fee involved.” ‎

Though Luton are also thought to be interested, the imminent bid that Appleton mentioned is believed ‎to be from Charlton.

The relationship between manager and player seems to have broken down irretrievably, and Sercombe could be the Addicks’ first signing of the summer.

Another player thought to be on Robinson’s radar is Peterborough winger, Marcus Maddison.

Posh recently made the player available and newly promoted Championship duo, Bolton and Sheffield United, are amongst a number of interested clubs.

Bolton would seem an unlikely destination for Maddison, the Trotters have financial issues and need to resolve their transfer embargo.

Like Marshall, it is unlikely that a decision about Maddison’s future is imminent.
