Sittingbourne Vice Chair Andrew Marjeram missed his team’s Emirates FA Cup third Qualifying Round tie on Saturday to take part in one of this country’s biggest endurance events, the National Three Peaks Challenge in aid of cancer charities.
Mr Marjeram’s wife Tiffany is sadly one of the diseases sufferers and the Brickies Vice Chair accepted the challenge in the name of charity long before Sittingbourne reached this stage of the Cup for the first time in eleven years.
“Obviously gutted not to be at the Staxson for this big game for the Club but committed myself to this incredible cause and I’m not going to back away from it,” Mr Marjeram told KSN before departing for Scotland.
He then went on to set out the tough itinerary that he and the other participants face this weekend.
He explained, “After a 10-hour drive to Fort William on Friday, the aim is to get an early night and some much-needed rest. Then on Saturday morning, following a high calorie breakfast we will aim to set off at 11am for Ben Nevis, to tackle the 1,345m climb to finish at approximately 4.30pm.
From there it is a 5-hour drive down to the Lake District, arriving around 10pm – and when we get there, and then the climb up Scafell Pike’s 978m to the summit, aiming to get back down for 1.45am Sunday morning.
Then it is another 4-hour drive into Wales and Mount Snowdon’s 1,085m. We are hoping to start Snowdon at 6.15am and finishing the decent at 10.30am… the challenge will be complete.”
