Chatham Town defender Megan Maslak will be hoping to help her side overcome an in form Norwich City side on Sunday afternoon.

The full back will be looking to repeat her thirty-yard thunder-bolt as this weekend, the Chats host a Norwich side who in recent weeks have edged in front of Keith Boanas’s side in the pursuit of unbeaten League leaders Real Bedford, meaning both sides know that defeat on Sunday would diminish respective title pushes for both sides.
As the Chats head into the weekend having conceded just eleven League goals and just two at home all season, Megan has been talking to KSN about the Chats season. “There’s a stability at the back that wasn’t there last year,” she admitted.
“Across the back line we’ve got the experience – Lucy (Jones) was at tier three Billericay, I have played tier three, Grace (Coombs) has a good background as has Ellie Perkins, and I think that all together we are leaders in ourselves and we pull each other talking constantly, that stems from Grace and Perkins as I think those two are real solid centre halves.”

“Across the back-line, we are solid and I think the best part is that we have each other’s backs as well even if we make a mistake and we know who’s going to be where and if we slide around, we are always talking and I think you can talk about the basics of defending but I think we do that very well, consistently as well!
“I think at times as a back four, back five or six with the two in midfield, we do have to dig deep as we’ve had to on occasion this season, like in the 0-0 draw here with Bedford which was a real dig deep game. We get praised for last minute defending but that as a group is not what we want to get praised for because we don’t want to be in those situations.”
“Having a keeper like Simone (Eligon) is great because I think we know that if we do make a mistake at the back, we know that we will be OK, and even if Simone doesn’t save it fully, the ball will come back out and we know that one of us will be there to sweep up.”
“We enjoy playing,” Meg went on with the Chats already in two cup finals as well as a third Quarter Final along with their League challenge.
“Playing keeps the momentum going which is one of the hardest things to do in ladies’ football. We have breaks when we could do without them. Straight after Christmas.
“We had to face London Bees and Bedford straight away and we did take our time to get going and our momentum again. Having some of the cup games on midweek has helped us, but we won’t get ahead of ourselves, we are in a good place, we are fighting for each other and working hard – we want to enjoy it unlike last year!”
Sunday’s game at the Bauvill kicks off at 2.30pm and in celebration of International Women’s Day is free entry to all.
