Maidstone United continued their fine form with a workmanlike performance against second bottom Hampton & Richmond.
The story could have been different as in the 4th minute Billy Adcock 25 yards saw his shot come back off the crossbar/post beating Lee Worgan.
This gave Maidstone a wakeup call & in the 7th minute they had their first chance when Stephen Butcher & Jay May combined with Butcher running down the left wing & his cross found Alex Flisher on the far post but he blazed his shot over the bar.
In the very next minute Maidstone took the lead when Matt Bodkin’s long ball found Alex Brown who slipped the ball into the path of Frannie Collin who from 8 yards shot home.
In the 14th minute Flisher received the ball on the right & went into the area before shooting into the side netting.
Another chance came in the 25th minute when Brown was released into the area & his shot was saved by the onrushing Tyler Tobin.
In the 32nd minute Maidstone had a scare when a free kick 30 yards out from Ben Harris forced Worgan to parry it away.
Two minutes later Maidstone should have got their second when Brown passed to Bodkin whose cross to the far post found Flisher who crossed into the area for Bodkin but from 15 yards he screwed his shot wide, another half chance came 4 minutes later when May got to the by-line & his low cross forced Billy Jeffries to knock it over the bar & from the resulting corner Jack Parkinson headed over the bar.
In the 43rd minute Maidstone could & maybe should have increased their lead when Brown was fouled just outside the area & Collin’s free kick was met by Sonny Miles going goal wards but May unintentionally headed it off the line.
In added on time Hampton nearly equalised when a long ball down the right saw Worgan race off his line but Luke Wanadio beat him to it & his lob went into the side netting.
The second half was only three minutes old when Butcher made a great run down the right beating two defenders & his cross found May but it hit him on the arm when it seemed easier to head.
Hampton kept plugging away & in the 57th minute Wanadio on the left cut inside & his shot was saved by Worgan.
Six minutes later Hampton had another half chance when a free kick 20 yards out was taken by Harris who hit the wall but the rebound was volleyed just past the post.
In the very next minute Ben Greenhalgh & Flisher combined to leave Greenhalgh in the area & he dummied the defender before shooting but Tobin saved it.
Maidstone got their second in the 65th minute when a Flisher corner to the back post found Parkinson who headed in from 6 yards.
Hampton nearly got a consolation in the 83rd minute when Wanadio latched onto a mistake by Butcher & went into the area before shooting but Worgan’s legs saved the day & in the very next minute it could have been three when Flisher on the left battling for the ball got to the by-line & his cross found Collin who unfortunately had to crick his neck to head it just wide of the post.
