Maidstone United probably had their worst display of Jay Saunders reign as they looked lethargic & looked like a team that had eleven individuals.
Their unbeaten run at home went as Enfield did the famous trick of defending well & counter attacking with speed.
The game took a while to get going & in the 14th minute Maidstone had the first half chance when a Frannie Collin free kick from 25 yards was easily saved by Nathan McDonald, two minutes later Ben Greenhalgh in the area charged down a clearance & saw his shot saved by McDonald for a corner.
In the very next minute Enfield on the break showed what they could do later on but this time Corey Whitely & Bobby Devyne combined & the low cross into the area was hacked away by Shane Huke.
Maidstone were now starting to get going without really causing many problems, in the 18th minute a long ball down the channel by Steve Watt found Billy Bricknell & from acute angle his shot went across the goal & ended up as a goal kick.
Another chance came in the 21st minute when Matt Bodkin on the right got to the by-line & crossed to the near post where Collin was but his flicked header went over the bar.
Enfield delivered the sucker punch as in the 22nd minute a Nathan Livings corner into the six yard box found its way to Claudio Yilou who flicked it in.
This seemed to knock the stuffing out of Maidstone as the next few minutes nothing really happened until the 34th minute when a Ryan Doyle free kick from 20 yards was saved by Lee Worgan.
In the minute added on Greenhalgh’s corner to the near post found Jack Parkinson but his header flashed over the bar.
The second half started with both teams unable to force any problems & it was in the 62nd minute that the first chance of the half came when Alex Brown was on the end of a great passing move & from 20 yards saw his shot deflected for a corner.
In the 68th minute Parkinson 20 yards saw his volleyed shot go over the bar. Five minutes later James Rogers on the right crossed into the area for Steve Watt but again the header went over the bar.
In the 83rd minute Enfield doubled their lead when a long ball out of defence caught the Maidstone defence napping & Devyne latched onto it & ran into the area & coolly slid the ball past the advancing Worgan.
Maidstone were stunned by this but kept going forward & 4 minutes later another clearance saw Devyne beat Watt & run into the area & again slide the ball past Worgan.
The final whistle went & the Enfield players celebrated by running towards their fans, while the Maidstone players sneaked off the pitch but hopefully it can be noted that it was a bad day at the office.
