At the Maidstone ‘Youth Sport Achievements Awards’ Maidstone Hockey Club was declared the Club of the Year.
At the prestigious Maidstone YSAA ceremony on Friday 25th January the Club was nominated for this accolade along with Kimura Shukokai Karate, Pegasus Gymnastics, and Vinters Football Clubs.
This award is supported by the Kent Playing Fields Association and its chairman, Robert Horner, presented the club with a shield, glass trophy and certificate. The presentation was also made by the Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Rodd Nelson-Gracie. The trophies will be on display in the cabinet at the hockey clubhouse.
The Club also announced that Jimmy Christmas was one of 10 individuals to receive a grant of £100 for his coaching with junior hockey players. This was courtesy of the Rotary Club of the Weald and the Jeremy Willson Charitable Trust.
Club Chairman, Roger Daniels, said – “This is wonderful recognition of the work the club has undertaken for players and the wider community. We are grateful to both KPFA and MBC. But thanks also go to all the club members and supporters who make this fantastic club what it is. Our congratulations also go to Jimmy Christmas.”
The Maidstone YSAAs recognise local individuals, teams and clubs for their achievements in 2012. The ceremony was also attended by Hugh Robertson MP Minister of Sport, and Cllr John A Wilson Maidstone Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services.
