Maidstone United 2-1 Billericay Town

Maidstone United grabbed the points in an open game with Billericay with two goals in four minutes changing the game and the Stones ultimately deserving the three points which pushes them up the table.

Billericay took the lead in the fourth minute with what looked like a training ground routine, a free kick on the right wing was played low into the penalty area by Sam Deering and a forward dummied it leaving Doug Loft to turn and shot past a static Jake Cole.

Maidstone nearly got an equaliser out of nothing in the 11th minute when Justin Amaluzor saw his 20 yard shot hit the cross bar.

Amaluzor had another opportunity when Saidou Khan’s cross to the back post found him but he volleyed over the bar from 10 yards.

In the 23rd minute Billericay nearly increased their lead. Alfie Potter put Jake Robinson through in the area but Cole came out and Robinson toe poked it just wide of the post.

Maidstone punished Billericay for that miss with an equaliser moments later. Ibby Akinbi received the ball in the area & from 15 yards he shot past Julian.

Four minutes later it was two, Ross Marshall laid the ball into the feet of Amaluzor & from 15 yards he shot past Julian to complete a lightening turn around.

The game continued to flow back and forth with both teams giving the ball away. In the 39th minute Billericay should have equalised when Potter on a counter attack went through into the area and from 15 yards curled his effort well wide.

Maidstone had an opportunity to give themselves a two goal cushion in first half injury time. A cross to the back post saw Akanbi have his effort saved by Alan Julian.

The second half took a while to get going and it was Amaluzor who eventually threatened first. Picking up a clearance from a free kick his 20 yards shot was saved by Julian.

Four minutes later Allen who started only because of Matt McClure’s injury in the warm up, jinked his way into the area & saw his shot punched away but only to Khan who blasted his first time shot over the bar.

In the 68th minute it should have been game over, Dan Wishart cut in from the left wing and his powerful shot was saved by Julian and cleared only as far as Allen who from 2 yards out saw his stabbed effort go past the post.

Billericay continued to press for an equaliser and in the 80th minute Jordan Parkes tried his luck from 22 yards only to see his effort whistle agonisingly past the post.

Two minutes later Jonny Edwards in the area turned swiftly & saw his shot saved again by Julian.

In the third minute of added on time Edwards was put through by Jake Embery but saw his shot come back of the post from an acute angle.

Despite the miss Maidstone held on for the three points in their best performance of the season.
