Magennis pens new Addicks deal

Charlton’s main striker – Josh Magennis – penned a new deal on Friday, that will keep him at The Valley until the summer of 2019.

The 27-year-old Ulsterman netted ten league goals for the Addicks last season, including a hat-trick at The Valley against Bristol Rovers in January.

Magennis joins Ricky Holmes and Jason Pearce, who also signed extended contracts in the summer.

Karl Robinson had this to say:

“Since the end of last season, we have tied down Pearcey, Ricky and now Josh and that was a big thing for the football club.

“Josh has really bought into what it takes to be at Charlton since he joined last summer, both on the pitch and in the local community, and this is great news for him and his family.‎”

One player who has had a frustrating time since arriving in SE7 a year ago is Lee Novak.

He broke his hand in a pre-season game at Leyton Orient last July, and has been plagued by injury niggles throughout his time at The Valley.

Novak’s luck seemed to have changed ‎when he came in for the injured Magennis against Bristol Rovers. His afternoon came to a premature end when he was shown a red card for a rash challenge.

Novak has scored just two‎ goals for the Addicks, and has never really settled in the south.

The South London Press has reported that Novak and his agent met with Karl Robinson on Thursday. It is thought a move back to the north was at the top of the agenda.

If Novak does depart, Robinson will want to bring in two strikers to supplement his forward options.
