Two in-form clubs meet at Moss Rose on Saturday as Macclesfield take on Welling United.
Back to back victories have eased the Silkmen to one place above the bottom four after failing to record a victory in their first nine matches the season. At Barnet, on Tuesday night, they recorded their first away win for nine months courtesy of a Connor Jenkins first half brace. The hosts, for whom Edgar Davids played the full 90 minutes, could only pull one back in the second half.
Meanwhile, Welling United completed their third win on the bounce and extended their unbeaten run to four matches. The 1-0 victory over Aldershot left them in seventh place despite the gruelling September schedule.
The game at Macclesfield will be their third trip to the North West on consecutive Saturdays and their fifth Skrill Premier match in fifteen days. All the other clubs in the league will have played the same number of games but not many will have clocked up as many miles.
Welling have shown all aspects of their game during this period. It took a lot of character to push on against Forest Green Rovers after seeing their two goal lead cancelled out. Three more goals sent the Wings fans home happy.
At Hyde, and at home to Aldershot Town, the Welling defence took the honours and over the 180 minutes, goalkeeper Lee Butcher was only called upon once to make more than a regulation save. Although Hyde had more of the ball early on, they didn’t trouble the Wings greatly, and Joe Healy’s goal was sufficient to bring home the three points.
One goal, this time from Alex Dyer, was enough to beat Aldershot Town. They came close on a couple of occasions but Welling also had further openings, and were again good value for their win.
Doug Bergqvist and Harry Beautyman will miss out through injury but Welling supporters will have been heartened to see long term absentees, Luis Cumbers and Connor McLaren, kicking a ball on the pitch before the game against Aldershot. Manager Jamie Day will hope that it is not too much longer until they are ready to do so in competitive action.
